What’s the difference between a dietitian and nutritionist?

The main difference between a Dietitian and a Nutritionist is that the title of Registered Dietitian (RD) is protected by law and all practitioners must be registered with the Health and Care Professions Council.

We offer evidence based nutrition and diet advice that is catered to you as an individual, across all age groups. Marianne is also a level 3 trained anthropometrist (ISAK) so can also offer specialist advice related to body composition.

There is so much on the internet related to food and nutrition – we can help you navigate this and sort the fact from fiction 😊

What to expect in an appointment?

Dietary Analysis

There are several options for completing the food diary.

  • Nutrium app – this link will be sent for you to register with the app and within that it will ask you to record your activity and food intake. This is confidential and is only open to Marianne.
  • Myfitnesspal app – lots of people use this app on a day to day basis to monitor food and activity. If this is one you use we can arrange for you to share with Marianne to review on a temporary basis. Again this is only open to you and her.
  • Email – word document with photos of food options. If this is your preferred option we can talk through details to record depending on what the main reason for the original consultation.

Nutrition Training and Competition Plan

Everyone is a performance athlete at heart! To that end, any food analysis, meal plans etc will also include assessment of activity and exercise. We can work on this to create your personal nutrition and activity goals.

If sports nutrition is the specific reason for your appointment we can develop a detailed periodised nutrition plan to complement and enhance your training.

If a dietary health related issue is the specific reason for your appointment we can work with you on your goals for improvement. This can also be supported by the multi-disciplinary team at Hampden Sports Clinic that may include Sport & Exercise Medicine doctors, Specialist Physiotherapy colleagues and input from Clinical Psychology.

Body Composition

Weight, height and Body Mass Index (BMI) are the common anthropometric measurements that most people are familiar with. Along with these, we also offer an anthropometric assessment based on surface skinfolds, girth and breadth measurements. These will be appropriate to the reason for the original consultation and will be discussed with you prior to the first appointment.

Full Body Composition (30 mins) - £75
(Tanita Scales + 4 Skin Folds Calliper Measurements - 4 Limb Girths + 2 Bone Breadths).
